Happy Birthday, Lupa!

Writer's Block: Yes, offense taken

If a friend or relative makes a racist or homophobic remark, do you tend to confront them or let it slide? Are you more likely to confront them if it offends you directly or someone else who seems reluctant to speak up?

Confront. I'm not down with that crap. At all. Besides I have zero interest in having a racist or homophobe as a friend. If it's a relative, same thing. I can't dump you from my family, but you may wish I could after I get done with you.
As my friend's baby battles against cancer, he faces another challenge - a severe lack of platelets in Phoenix to help replenish those he's lost through chemo. It doesn't take that much more time to donate platelets. Wherever you are, the shortage isn't isolated to Phoenix, so please consider donating as soon as possible.

I'll be going this week.

Yes, this.

"When facts and reason are thrown overboard and only timidity passes for wisdom, and we can no longer even engage in a civil conversation with each other over the things that truly matter – that at that point we don't merely lose our capacity to solve big challenges. We lose something essential about ourselves." - Barack Obama

The speech tonight was further affirmation, for me, that *this* is where I want to be when discussing charged issues. Not to get down in the dirt with the worst, but to respond firmly with my truth, calling out those that need to be called out without demonizing them, and holding strong with a focus towards a positive goal.

Soon as I google the transcript it's being printed out and put into my paper journal as a reminder of how I wish to speak to others - those that agree with me and those that don't.

Writer's Block: Home Remedies

When you get sick or have a cold, what's your favorite remedy to make you feel better?

Snowball (2000-2009). All he wanted was to love us.
Have you ever found yourself enjoying something you had previously scorned as a cliché? What was it?

Wrestling. But not for long! I swear, it was just a phase. The Rock was a bad guy. Stone Cold Steve Austin was cool.

Look, let's just move on, shall we?

Writer's Block: Crystal Ball

All of August stretches before us today—what is your prediction for this month's weirdest or most unexpected news story?

Paris Hilton will die and everyone in America will talk about how beloved she was, how she changed so many lives, and how misunderstood she was. Facebook will have tribute apps gone wild in her honor. CNN and MSNBC will provide 24/7 coverage of her life, times, and funeral. At least one California congressperson will try to pass a bill naming a "Paris Hilton Day", but it won't pass, sparking outrage, rioting, and the overthrow of democracy as we know it.

By December people will awaken from their Hilton-inspired rage, grief, and hysteria to ask, "WTF were we thinking?"

No one will have an answer.

Writer's Block: Let's Be Friends

After a break-up, do you try to remain friends with your former flame? Does it work?

I've tried. Sometimes it does, sometimes it blows up in my face.
