Sigh

Election day
Someday this will matter. It's a freaking shame though. Voting isn't enough, an ignorant electorate makes ignorant choices. Too bad the GOP depends on this so much. I keep hoping that regular folks in the Republican Party will confront these kind of tactics and put their collective foot down to demand that this kind of campaigning cease immediately. Unfortunately these types of tactics work beautifully. That says a lot of very bad things about Americans as a whole.

Analysis: McCain's claims skirt facts, test voters

Major news outlets have written such fact-checking articles for years. "But in the last two election cycles, the very notion that the facts matter seems to be under assault," said Michael X. Delli Carpini, an authority on political ads at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. "Candidates and their consultants seem to have learned that as long as you don't back down from your charges or claims, they will stick in the minds of voters regardless of their accuracy or at a minimum, what the truth is will remain murky, a matter of opinion rather than fact."

i vacillate between anger and hopelessness and idiot america that can let this insanely damaging political 'style' tear our country down yet AGAIN, and weird baseless optimism that enough people have had enough and will say so at the polls.
does it really take the entire economy crashing and burning, millions getting sick or losing their houses due to medical insanity, global warfare or immediate-doom climate change to galvanate the masses?
if so, that's the best reason NOT to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness i've ever heard. apparently having it good just breeds apathy and entitlement. bring on some Real Oppression!

I wish i shared that baseless optimism. I fear that the incredibly stupid out number the half way intelligent voters by far. The human race depresses me.

baseless optimism

Hrm, not sure it's baseless. Humans have been clusterfucking morons, sure, but we've also done great things and used our heads from time to time.

Not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
